Seamus O'Loughlin
To date Seamus has completed 10 Zero Energy Renovations, constructed over 20 Passive Houses and invented many products that simplify Passive House construction.
In 2007, Seamus invented the “Passive Slab”, a Passive House certified foundation system, to eliminate the wall/floor cold bridge, because it so suitable for traditional construction methods its been used in 30-40 Irish Passive Houses to date. He also completed 4 low energy houses and got his first air tightness test result below 1ac@50kPa.
In 2008, Seamus attended building efficiency lectures with Prof Jon Kristinsson, the “Godfather of Energy” in Holland, where he studied ground heat storage and capturing heat in Glasshouses among other things, Jon built 189 Passive Houses in Rotterdam 30 years ago, 10 years before the first German Passive Houses. Seamus’s vast experience in Passive House includes building the first Irish factory built Passive House with factory fitted windows and building Ireland’s first commercial Passive House project.
In 2009, Seamus was on the Department of the Environment Advisory committee for Part L (2008) of the Irish building regulations. He completed Irelands First EnerPHit A1 rated Energy Plus Renovation and has since completed close to 10 zero energy renovations. Seamus is also a Passive Schools consultant for Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd for the construction of Passive Schools in Blackpool and Hull and has developed ICF foundation and roof details for Airpacks Ltd and QuinnLite block details for the Quinn Building Products Ltd.
In 2010, Seamus developed FiWi HRV in partnership with Prof Jon Kristinsson, eliminating the requirement for ducts in airtight well insulated buildings; it cuts the cost of HRV by 50% and simplifies ventilation. In the same year, Seamus developed the cost effective Solar Slab/Solar Roof to eliminate the back-up heating requirement in Passive Houses which is often the costliest part.
This year Seamus completed five zero energy renovations plus five new build Passive Houses without heating systems and he also developed the Heat Loss Barrier. In addition to that, Seamus has built his first UK Passive House.
